BOARD MEMBER COMMITMENT & EXPECTATIONS

Board Member Commitment & Expectations

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Plano Library Friends Board of Directors. We are a working Board, which means every member plays an active role in advancing our mission and supporting the Plano Public Library.

Eligibility

To serve on the Board, you must either live or work in Plano or Collin County, Texas, and/or be a regular patron of the Plano Public Library System and a current member of Plano Library Friends in good standing.

Responsibilities

Board members help provide leadership, strengthen community relationships and build support for the Library, with a responsibility to:

• Ensure organizational activities align with our mission
• Participate in fundraising and advocacy efforts
• Review and support the organization’s financial health
• Attend Board meetings and Friends events
• Serve on at least one committee
• Maintain an active Plano Library Friends membership

Time Commitment

Board service requires active participation throughout the year. Board members are expected to:

• Attend monthly Board meetings, typically held on the third Wednesday evening of each month at a Plano library
• Actively serve on at least one committee by attending meetings once a month and contributing to committee projects and activities
• Volunteer periodically at Book Sales and other Friends events

Missing more than two consecutive Board meetings without prior notice or extenuating circumstances may result in removal from the Board.

Board terms are one year, from October 1 through September 30, and may be renewed annually with the approval of the Board.
